Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced this step during a working visit to Jayapura Regional Hospital on Wednesday (11/10/2023). During the visit, he inspected the cardiac cathlab service and saw the progress of the construction of the radiotherapy bunker building.
Expensive Cancer Radiotherapy Equipment
The cancer radiotherapy device to be delivered is considered the most expensive. It is planned to be delivered around December 2023, after the bunker construction is completed.
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said, “The most expensive thing we will provide is a radiotherapy device for cancer. We have received our quota (this year), so I am chasing him (Director of Jayapura Regional Hospital) because the construction (of the building) must be completed.”
Radiotherapy Equipment for Cancer Treatment
The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) will provide several types of cancer radiotherapy equipment, including Linear Accelerator (LINAC), Brachytherapy, and CT Simulator. All of this equipment has a price tag of tens of billions of rupiah.
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained the importance of these tools because cancer is the third leading cause of death in Indonesia and the number continues to increase.

The Ministry of Health continues to support Jayapura Regional Hospital in improving health services for patients. Jayapura Regional Hospital is the highest referral hospital in Papua.
Director of Jayapura Regional Hospital, Aloysius Giyai, thanked Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin for the assistance of sophisticated medical equipment. In addition to equipment, the Ministry of Health will also help by sending experts such as medical physicists, radiology specialists, and physiotherapists.
The development of radiodiagnostic, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy facilities is a priority to overcome the high death rate due to cancer in Indonesia.
