The impact of the Jokowi IKN project on the growth of the economy of Kalimantan by 5.56%

Jakarta, Klinik Farma – The Archipelago Capital Development Project (IKN) is starting to have a positive impact on the economic growth of Kalimantan, East Kalimantan.

The Central Agency of Statistics (BPS) noted that Kalimantan’s economic growth grew by 5.56% in the second quarter of 2023, with East Kalimantan contributing the most with a 3.55% share.

“The first source of growth in East Kalimantan is mining, secondly, construction, and thirdly, the processing industry. Construction in East Kalimantan is related to development, which is still mostly development in East Kalimantan,” said BPS Deputy for Balance Sheets and Statistical Analysis, Moh. Edi Mahmoud, Monday (July 8, 2023).

Meanwhile, the contribution of West, Central, North and South Kalimantan was not as big as East Kalimantan. West Kalimantan accounted for 0.61%, South Kalimantan 0.73%, Central Kalimantan 0.34% and North Kalimantan 0.33%.

The growth of Kalimantan is higher than the national growth. However, more Sulawesi and Maluku and Papua rose by 6.64% and 6.35% respectively.

According to BPS, the Indonesian economy is spatially strengthening in the second quarter of 2023 in several regions. The Java group of provinces is the main contributor to the national economy with a share of 57.27% and a growth rate of 5.18% (year-on-year) compared to the second quarter of 2022.
