Jakarta, Klinik Farma – Finance Minister Shri Mulyani shared good news regarding the global economy. He shared this after accompanying President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to a meeting with OECD Secretary General Matthias Kormann on Thursday (October 8, 2023).
According to him, the OECD will revise its forecast for global economic growth after conditions improve in Europe. The OECD currently estimates global growth at 2.7% in 2023 and will increase to 2.9% in 2024.
“Earlier we discussed what the global economic conditions are and the OECD said that conditions are relatively better compared to last year’s forecast that Europe would be in recession and inflation would be quite high, but recent developments have improved somewhat and this is having a positive influence. ”, said Sri Mulyani, quoted on Friday (11/8/2023).
This improvement is due to European economic conditions. Sri Mulyani said the OECD sees changes in inflation and economic growth across the blue continent looking to improve this year.
“Last year’s forecast said that Europe would be in recession and inflation would be quite high, but recent events have improved somewhat and this has had a positive impact, as have others,” Sri Mulyani said.
In addition to addressing the global economy, Sri Mulyani said that the OECD Secretary-General commends President Jokowi’s leadership on climate investment and economic reform steps.
He also explained that talks between the president and Kormann were taking place regarding Indonesia’s interest in membership in the OECD.
“It was previously explained how the OECD membership process can be carried out,” he said at the Presidential Palace complex on Thursday (October 8, 2023).
He explained that President Joko Widodo’s desire to become part of the OECD could be realized quickly and successfully. It is believed that the benefits of the OECD can improve the quality of politics and bureaucracy in Indonesia.
According to Sri Mulyani, Indonesia already has the capital to become a member of the OECD. Where the cooperation established by the two parties continues for a long time, such as the economic survey.
In addition, policies on state-owned enterprises, taxes, capital flows, public procurement, anti-corruption and environmental policies are in line with the requirements of OECD membership.
“So that when Indonesia wants to become a member of the OECD, we do not start from scratch at all,” he said.
