Jakarta, Klinik Farma – An explosion and fire at a gas station in the Dagestan region in southern Russia killed 25 people, including three children.
news agency Interfaxquoted Reutersreported that the fire started in a car repair shop near a road in the Dagestan capital Makhachkala late on Monday evening (08/14/2023) and led to the explosion spreading to a nearby gas station.
Footage posted online shows a one-story building on fire.
“It’s like war,” said one witness.
Reported AFPa plane was sent to Makhachkala to evacuate the seriously wounded to Moscow.
The head of the government of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, said via Telegram that the explosion occurred at 21:40 local time.
“The cause and type of explosion are being specified,” he said.
An eyewitness told about the incident.
“After the explosion, everything collapsed on our heads, we didn’t see anything else,” he said on condition of anonymity.
Video uploaded to Telegram by news agency RIA News shows flames rising from a building followed by a massive explosion.
The fire spread to an area of about 600 square meters (6,450 sq ft), and 260 firefighters arrived at the scene.
