This Perseid meteor is an event where the meteor crosses the Earth’s atmosphere and looks like a shooting star in the sky. This phenomenon occurs when the Earth crosses the orbit of Comet Swift-Tuttle. Comet Swift-Tuttle makes one revolution around the Sun in 133 years.

The Perseid meteor shower was first recorded by Chinese scientists in the early 2nd century BC. Research into the Perseid meteor shower began in 1900 and was discovered by only two American astronomers, namely Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle. They published a study that showed that the Perseid meteor shower comes from comet Swift-Tuttle.
When this phenomenon happens, the Earth’s gravity will pull on the rest of the rock left behind by the comet. These flakes will then burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere and emit a bright light similar to a shooting star.
To get the best idea of the Perseid meteor shower, observers are encouraged to view the phenomenon from locations away from light pollution.
The Perseid meteor shower will peak on August 12 and 13. During peak hours, the Perseid meteor shower can produce up to 100 shooting stars per hour.
Observers also suggest that people who want to see the phenomenon first hand can take binoculars or a telescope with them to see brighter meteors. People are also asked to go to a dark place and get used to their vision for 30 minutes before seeing the phenomenon in person.

The head of the Space Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency, Emanuel Sunging, said that this phenomenon also occurs at certain hours.
“Yes, the peak will be on August 12 and 13. But in fact, this meter-long rain lasts for about a week. These dates are usually more numerous (there are meteor showers),“, Emanuel said in a statement on Thursday (10/08/2023) yesterday.
