Ambassador Piket also thanked Coordinating Minister Airlangge for his support in enhancing bilateral economic cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union. “I thank you for your cooperation and harmonious relations, especially for Pak Airlanga’s leadership in pursuing a policy of economic cooperation with the European Union. Coordinating Minister Airlangga is also always ready and open for dialogue on various issues of economic cooperation related to bilateral economic relations,” said Ambassador Piket.

Also, on this occasion, Coordinating Minister Airlangga stressed his commitment to further accelerate the completion of the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership (IEU-CEPA) negotiations. Coordinating Minister Airlangga stressed that the IEU-CEPA is an important tool to improve market access and competitiveness of Indonesian products in the European Union market. “The two heads of state have expressed their commitment to completing the IEU-CEPA negotiations by the end of this year or early 2024 at the latest. In addition, Ambassador Piket and Coordinating Minister Airlangga welcomed the progress of the first meeting of the Joint Working Group on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which took place earlier this month. They both agreed that this collaboration is important to ensure the sustainability of supply chains for strategic commodities such as palm oil, coffee, rubber, timber and cocoa.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Piket expressed support for Indonesia’s planned entry into the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The Ambassador hopes that this process will help Indonesia improve the quality of public policy and governance.

Ambassador Vincent Piket, who has served as EU Ambassador to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam since 2019, will expire at the end of August 2023. He will be replaced by Ambassador Denis Chaibi, who is currently the EU Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
